About the Magellan Member & Family Advisory Committee

Thank you for your interest in the Magellan Member & Family Advisory Committee (MFAC). The MFAC helps Magellan improve the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan (IBHP) by sharing feedback. The committee has up to eight (8) members:

Up to four (4) IBHP members who have used IBHP mental health and/or substance use services.
Up to four (4) family members who have helped a loved one use IBHP services.

You or your family member qualify for the IBHP if:

You or your family member have Idaho Medicaid.
Or if you live in Idaho and meet certain criteria.

Who can join the MFAC?
You can join the MFAC if:

You qualify for IBHP services and have used IBHP mental health and/or substance use services.
You are the parent, family member, or caregiver of a child who qualifies for IBHP services and have helped your loved one use these services.

Note: MFAC members will not lose committee membership status if their eligibility status changes during their term, however, members must be eligible at the beginning of each new term.

What do MFAC members do?
Members share their ideas and advice based on their personal experiences. This helps make sure the voices of people using IBHP services are heard and part of making the program better. Members help by:

Sharing ideas and feedback based on their own experiences.
Finding ways to improve and grow programs.
Suggesting new ideas to help IBHP members and families.
Reviewing and giving feedback on materials for members and families.
Helping create policies that meet the needs of members and families.

When does the MFAC meet?

MFAC meets on Zoom on the third Thursday of each month from:

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. MST.
12:00 – 1:00 p.m. PST.

How long can I serve on the MFAC?

The MFAC includes people with different life experiences from across the state. To keep the MFAC diverse, members:

Serve for one (1) year at a time.
Can serve up to two (2) one-year terms in a row.
Must reapply at the end of their first term.

This structure ensures the committee has a wide range of voices and perspectives.

Do MFAC members get paid?
Yes, MFAC members are paid $75 for each meeting they attend. To get paid, you must:

Be at the meeting for at least 75% of the time.
Share your feedback openly.

This payment may count as income if you get Medicaid or other government help. Other programs may also have rules about income. You can let the MFAC chair know if you don’t want to be paid.

How does Magellan help members take part in the MFAC?

Magellan wants all MFAC members to feel included and supported. Magellan provides these services for free so everyone can take part equally:

Interpreters and translation during meetings, including American Sign Language.
Information in languages other than English.
Materials in formats like braille, large print, or electronic versions.
TTY services for members who are deaf or hard of hearing.

How can I apply to join the MFAC?

December 31, 2024: Applications are due
January 3, 2025: All applicants will receive an email letting them know if they have been selected or not.
January 16, 2025: The first 2025 meeting will be on Zoom from:
- 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. MT.
- 12:00 -1:00 p.m. PT.
